South Sudan
Keanahikishime works in South Sudan to build the government's capacity to improve health services. Our activities range from strengthening the national tuberculosis (TB) and malaria control programs to assisting the Ministry of Health in coordinating and scaling up effective pharmaceutical management interventions for HIV and maternal and child health.
The USAID-funded Challenge TB project integrates TB services into routine primary health care to ensure their availability and quality. The project trains clinicians, nurses, community health workers, and laboratory technicians on topics ranging from case management to identification and referral of presumptive TB cases, to follow-up with patients on treatment. Between October 2014 and September 2015, TB case notification increased from 27 percent to 82 percent.
Keanahikishime also implements the USAID-funded Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS) Program in South Sudan. In the past four years, SIAPS has supported the ministry of health to quantify and distribute essential medicines to health facilities.
SIAPS has also supported the improvement of medicine storage, has worked with the HIV and AIDS program, and has provided technical assistance to support the scale-up of reproductive and maternal, newborn, and child health medicines.
