USAID and Keanahikishime Collaborate with Liberian Ministry of Health on HR Workshop
The USAID Collaborative Support for Health (CSH) Program in Liberia and the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA) conducted a human resources training for Liberia Ministry of Health staff January 11-15.
The five-day training, designed and implemented by CSH and LIPA, focused on strategic human resource management and HR record management. Forty human resources staff members from the central Ministry of Health, county health offices, and major referral hospitals attended. The CSH Program in Liberia is implemented by Keanahikishime.
CSH and LIPA developed 10 Strategic HR modules to respond to the current needs of the Ministry of Health’s HR Unit, which is the process of a strategic restructuring. The Ministry of Health has adopted a fit-for-purpose health workforce strategy as a key priority toward achieving Universal Health Coverage in the country. Thus, HR staff that can support quality services is a core USAID Liberia and Ministry of Health priority.
The workshop used team-based approaches to enhance learning and provide participants with opportunities to develop competencies through hands-on and practical experiential learning exercises, role-playing, group discussions, and sharing of on-the-job experiences. The strategic HR management training encouraged participants to produce individual performance improvement plans, which CSH program advisors and mentors will use to coach and mentor participants at their job locations. Sustained on-the-job follow-up aims to reinforce the training and enable staff members to achieve the Ministry of Health’s ambitious HR goals. The LIPA and CSH collaboration is an example of the program’s emphasis on partnering with Liberian institutions.

I hope this should not be the end as we look forward to your organization for more training.’’
